Ah…. love is in the air and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! 

Have you noticed that Valentine’s Day has really become a very commercial holiday and you can end up spending lots of money on gifts, cards, flowers, meals, etc?!  

But who has money to spend on all of that this year?!  Not me! 

Valentine’s Day should be about remembering how much we love someone. 

All you need is a little thoughtfulness and some time to make a Valentine’s Day special …. and thrifty!

Here are a few ideas to help you keep the romance alive but also keep the money in your wallet!

Thrifty Valentine’s Day Ideas

• Keep it simple.  Ask your Valentine out for a romantic dinner, make reservations and arrange babysitting for the kids.  Don’t forget to look for restaurant coupons or  buy Restaurant.com Gift Certificates to help you save money on your dinner!
• Skip the store bought Valentine’s Cards.  Sure, they are convenient but they generally cost $3-$6.  Ouch.  Why not make a card by using things you have around the house (paper, ribbon, buttons, pictures, etc).  You can be creative plus inexpensive!  Check out Better Homes and Gardens Magazine for some easy ideas to get your started (like the simple heart below).
